Yes, if you can arrange transportation for your new pet. We can provide adoption counseling over the phone. First, complete the dog or cat adoption questionnaire. Once we receive this we will reach out and discuss any concerns or questions you have. If you are ready to move forward, you will pay for your adoption fee and you will need to provide prompt pet transport.

Whiskers and Tails is not formally affiliated with other animal welfare groups, but we work cooperatively with dozens of other organizations. We acknowledge that when we all work together, we can save more lives.

Whiskers and Tails is funded primarily by donations of individuals. We receive some funding from foundations, businesses, fundraising events, and adoption fees. We do not currently receive any government funding. We are so grateful to our generous community for supporting our mission.

Adoption Questions:

Our goal is to get homeless pets paired with the perfect new family as quickly as possible. For that reason, we do not allow animals to be held or reserved. Adoptions are first-come, first-served.

Adoption fees are $100. Adoption fees help cover our costs to provide each animal with medical care, spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate core vaccinations, a microchip, food, shelter and more.

Our animals come from owners surrendering the pets for various reasons, stray animals, and shelter and rescue partners.

To adopt a pet, you must be at least 18 years old.
We do not allow pets to be adopted as gifts. We do allow you to pay an adoption fee and bring the intended gift recipient back to adopt the animal of their choosing. We also encourage gifting someone with a pet bed, food, and other pet related items that they can “unwrap” as a gift, and then bringing them to the shelter or adoption even to find the perfect pet for them.

Surrendering a Pet:

To return your adopted pet to Whiskers and Tails, please fill out a surrender form. If you adopted within the past 30 days, a surrender fee is not required. Please complete the form, and a team member will reach out within 48 hours.

DOG SURRENDER APPLICATION

CAT SURRENDER APPLICATION

Making the decision to rehome your pet is a difficult one. Whiskers and Tails will do everything we can to help, but we receive more requests than we have the space to accommodate. To have your pet considered, please complete the appropriate form below. A member of our team will respond to your request within 48 hours.

DOG SURRENDER APPLICATION

CAT SURRENDER APPLICATION

If the pet is friendly and approachable, the first step is to look for ID tags on the animal’s collar and contact their owner to return the animal to its home. If there is no tag please take the animal to have it scanned for a microchip. This can be done at any local veterinary clinic, animal control office, and even PetSmart.

If you can’t approach or safely contain the animal, please call your local animal services or animal control. They will gather information from you about the animal so that they can assist.

If no owner can be located, you can apply to surrender the pet. However, many times we do require you to foster the pet until we can either find a home or until a kennel space opens at our shelter. We do ask for a surrender donation to help cover costs of vetting and care.

Fostering Pets:

You can explore foster opportunities and sign up here. Once we have your application on file we will reach out with any fostering needs.

No experience is required to become a foster! We provide training, resources, and support to ensure you feel comfortable caring for your foster pet. Our team is here to guide you through the entire process.
Yes, you can browse our website to choose the pet that you would like to foster. We’ll do our best to match you with animals that fit your experience and household setup. We get new requests for surrenders daily, so there are always new opportunities.

Yes, socializing your foster pet in a controlled, safe way is beneficial for them. If your foster pet is fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered, we encourage you to take them out to pet friendly locations as well.

This differs for each pet. We will provide a schedule when you receive your foster pet, and we’ll be flexible to work with your availability. If you are fostering young puppies or kittens, they will need more medical visits than adult animals.

We have adoption events on the weekends, and we ask that you attend at least two events per month with your foster dog(s). This ensures they get more exposure, which increases their chance of adoption.

We understand that situations can change. If you’re unable to continue fostering, please contact our Foster Team so we can arrange to bring the animal back to the shelter or find a new foster home. Please allow up to 48 hours for us to find a new placement for your foster.

Yes! As a foster, you have the first opportunity to adopt your foster pet before they become available to the public. If you or someone you know is interested in adopting, please notify our team and we will walk you through the adoption process.
